NFL's Vick fails drug test, gets new restrictions
WASHINGTON, Sept 26 (Reuters) - Suspended Atlanta Falcons football star Michael Vick, who is awaiting sentencing for his dogfighting conviction, tested positive for marijuana use and was barred on Wednesday from leaving his home late at night.
U.S. District Judge Henry Hudson in Richmond, Virginia, ruled in a two-page order that the 27-year-old Vick could not leave his home between 10 p.m. and 6 a.m. and must submit to electronic monitoring.
In setting new conditions for him to remain free while awaiting sentencing, the judge said Vick must submit to random drug testing.
How does the failed drug test affect Vick's case?
Michael Vick's pretrial release in the federal case stipulated that he "refrain from use or unlawful possession of a narcotic drug or other controlled substance," as well as comply with other behavioral restraints. As a result, while Vick has remained free during his pretrial release, he has been free with significant strings attached.
